Chota Tingrai
TinsukiaFlagship estate. Japanese-style green, speciality and certified organic teas, and India's first commercial matcha.
USDA & India Organic certified
Tea, forest and a long friendship with Japan.
Chota Tingrai lies in the Tinsukia district, with a satellite garden at Tingamira. It is the flagship estate of Jalan Industries, a family-led tea business now in its fourth generation.
The estate has long made strong, brisk Assam black teas. Its difference is what it learned next.

In the 1980s the estate set up a green tea factory with Japanese experts, among them the Hara family of Umenoen Tea Company. Production paused in the early 1990s.
In 2016 the next generation revived it, working again with the Hara family and Japanese engineers to adapt machinery to Assam leaf. That work led, a decade later, to matcha.
